Vacancy: Postdoctoral Scientist in Epidemiology/Public Health
The PNGIMR is a statutory organization tasked with conducting health and medical research into the primary health problems facing the people of Papua New Guinea. The institute provides evidence base research for health policy formulation in PNG. It has a long-standing research program on malaria that combines international excellence with local relevance.
The Institute recently received funding to conduct studies on the prevalence of malaria on Lihir Group of Islands, New Ireland Province, PNG. In partnership with Lihir Malaria Elimination Program, the IMR will conduct surveys on the prevalence of malaria on the island in preparation for control measures to eventually eliminate malaria.
We are seeking to recruit a Postdoctoral Scientist, to be based at PNGIMR Madang, to lead a team studying the prevalence of malaria on the island and monitor the impact of malaria elimination programs. The candidate will be part of a team of local and international network of collaborators. The position will be for a period of six (6) months.
We are looking for a researcher at the postdoctoral level with strong skills in the design, implementation and analysis of epidemiological field studies, (bio-) statistics, data management and report writing. A PhD in a relevant discipline and hands-on field work experience are both essential. Moreover, the candidate needs to have excellent communication and interpersonal skills and be experienced in project management, which will be a key component of the position. We require a candidate with a particular interest in interdisciplinary public health research and mentoring of junior researchers, and willing to be based full-time in Papua New Guinea with international travel if required.
