Ground breaking research into major health issues in PNG

Training at IMR

At the IMR, we have a comprehensive training program for staff so that all can benefit from learning the latest techniques and research methods. Our graduate and post-graduate development programs include support for medical researchers.

Our Program

Global Infectious Disease Research Training Program

In 2013, the PNG Institute of Medical Research (PNGIMR) in collaboration with Case Western Reserve University, Cleveland Ohio, USA and the University of Papua New Guinea (UPNG) signed a Memorandum of Agreement in Cleveland to train and build capacity of Papua New Guineans in health research.

The MoA paved way for the establishment of the Global Infectious Disease Research Training Program which will run for three years. Under this program, five Fogarty International Scholarships will be awarded each year to outstanding Papua New Guineans who wish to pursue a Master’s degree in Biological Sciences, Medical Sciences or Public Health.

Successful applicants will be attached with either Case Western Reserve University or Michigan State University in the USA to complete two-years of study.

PNGIMR/ExxonMobil PNG/ UNPNG Partnership in Health (PiH) Graduate Program

This Graduate Program was established in 2010 to train and build Papua New Guineans who have the vision and passion to assist in improving the health of Papua New Guineans through biomedical research.
The program includes Summer Internship, Honours and Masters Fellowships. This program is being co-sponsored by ExxonMobil PNG and the PNGIMR.
