The library collection at the Michael Alpers Library at the Papua New Guinea Institute of Medical Research started with the Institute itself in 1969. The primary objective of the library collection has always been the support of the research carried out at the Institute and as such it includes not only the medical subjects of interest but it also covers a broader spectrum of Philosophy, Religion, Psychology, Anthropology etc. The Collection also includes a copy of all publications written by the staff of the Institute throughout the years.
