![]() Director’s 2010 Welcome By Geraldine Vilakiva The Director of the Institute of Medical Research, Professor Peter Siba, has welcomed back all returning staff and new staff, researchers and student graduates, for another working year. In his welcome remarks, Prof Siba emphasised to staff members of the IMR at the three sites Goroka, Madang and Maprik - to continue to set quality standards in their research work at the Institution. “I would like to stress to staff members that we must continue to maintain, as well as increase the standard of our work,” he said. “We must continue to produce high quality research.” While on that note, Prof Siba mentioned that there will be many new projects coming up this year and he expects commitment and loyalty by the staff in which ever work or project they are involved in. He said one of the big activities to take place this year will be the Pneumonia Colloquium which is at the end of August. At present, each of the six units at IMR is doing fundraising towards the preparation of the event. Prof Siba has acknowledged all staff involvement in fundraisings towards the event and has urged them to continue their fundraising activities to ensure that the event is a success. Finally, Prof Siba has extended his special welcome to all the new staff that have joined the IMR this year and also all senior staff recruited in 2009 and 2010 to be engaged in the new studies that will take place at IMR. On that note, Director Prof Siba reiterated to staff members the importance of maintaining the quality of research work at the Institute this year as well as continues to strengthen the already established relationship that the Institute has with its overseas partners.
