Quality Research done at PNGIMR

 

The newly appointed Australian High Commissioner to PNG, Ian Kemish, has highly praised the PNG Institute of Medical Research (IMR) for its high quality research work as well as its good financial management and governance.

Director of IMR, Professer Peter Siba welcomes Australian High Commissioner, Ian Kemish, to the Institute’s headquaters in Goroka.

Commissioner Kemish made these comments during his visit to the IMR headquarters in Goroka at the end of February this year.

Mr Kemish was very impressed with the facilities and the various research work projects been done at the IMR. He said that the IMR is one of the institutions that is widely acknowledged for the high quality of research work done and for its good management and governance. Mr Kemish was accompanied by his AusAID Minister Councillor, Stephanie Copus-Campbell, when he visited the PNG IMR. When receiving the delegation, the Director of the IMR, Professor Peter Siba, took the opportunity to express his gratitude to the Government and the people of Australia, for their continuos support of the Institute.

The IMR has been a recipient of Australian Government funding through the Incentive Program and the current Core Research Support. At present the Institute is carrying out several research projects which are funded by AusAid. The visiting delegation also included his wife Roxanne Martens, and second secretary- AHC and Foreign Affairs, Louise Baker
