According to one of the IPTp Study Clinicians Dr Regina Wangnapi, “People came to see what was happening and asked a lot of questions about the project.”This was confirmed by one of the IPTp Management Team Edmond Polut who reaffirmed that everyone was eager to know more, asking for brochures and more information.

Dr Wangnapi mentioned that since the IPTp project would be conducted within clinics in Madang District. The project was launched to increase public awareness. The target group was the whole community, including men, women and children so that they would understand why pregnant mothers in their families would join the study.

Madang IMR Site Manager, John Taime, mentioned that while project awareness had been done in the past within communities where a project was to be situated, this was the first time awareness on a new upcoming project had been done on such a large scale.

At the end of the day, anticipated public awareness was achieved despite the challenges of a short preparation time, budget constrictions and limited manpower because of the combination of ongoing clinical duties.
