PNG Institute of Medical Research develops strategic plan

The PNG IMR’s executive management team and a group of selected staff, mostly senior managers, from its four research branches convened at the Malolo Hotel in Madang from the 16-18 of September to develop its 5-year strategic plan.

The strategic plan is scheduled to be launched after the December Council meeting and some of the important dignatries expected to attend the occasion include the Prime Minister Grand Chief Sir Micahel Somare and the Minister for Health and several other important civil servants.

Lead by the Institute’s Director, Professor Peter Max Siba, and his two Deputy Directors (DD), Sam Akunaii – DD Co-operate Affairs and DD Scientific Services, Dr Ivo Mueller, the two days turned out to be very comprehensive, productive and worthwhile. The ‘Papa na Mama’ of the Institute Professor Michael Alpers and Dr Deborah Lehman were around during the first day of the meeting and made some meaningful contributions to the meeting. Mr Sombat Jensuebsant from Thailand, attended the meeting that was sponored by WHO Port Moresby and Manila. Sombat who has extensive experience in facilitating similar strategic plans workshops, facilitated throughout the two days.
