PNGIMR takes part in NARI Show

By Llane Munau

A delegation of five PNGIMR staff, from IMR Goroka, travelled to Lae to take part in the National Agriculture Research Institute’s (NARI) Agricultural Innovative Show, which was held on the 6th of May, 2009.

The group consisted of Graduate Scientific Officers Bangan John and Ore Topurua, Laboratory Manager, Matthew Omena, Transport Officer, Bill Kotuno and Multi-Media Officer, Llane Munau as the Team leader.

The purpose of PNGIMR taking part in the show was to strengthen the Institute’s relationship with NARI as a sister research institution and to sell IMR to the public.

These goals were archived successfully on the day as the delegation worked together in explaining the work of the Institute to the interested public.

According to Ms Munau, the team had opened the understanding of a lot of people on the questions and queries they had about the work of the Institute.

“We had a lot of students, teachers, villagers and people from all walks of life show great interest in our set up at the stall… a lot of questions were asked about the work of the Institute and our team did a great job in answering their quires,” she said.

“However we found out that not many people knew about PNGIMR and the research work it does. So I think the NARI Show was a great opportunity for us to sell the Institute. I would recommend that we take part in more shows and public events like such to let people know that we are around and the work we do is important,” she pointed out.

She recommended that PNGIMR should also come up with such an event where IMR can show case the work it does to the general public.
