Taime congratulates 40th Anniversary celebrations
organizing team

The Vector Borne Disease Research Unit Manager, Mr John Taime, has applauded the outstanding work of Mr Samson Akunaii and his team in organizing a successful celebration for the PNGIMR 40th Anniversary and Colloquium, which was held in Goroka from the 29th of June to the 4th of July.

Mr Taime said everyone enjoyed the one week program but weren’t able to express their gratitude, so on behalf of the Madang and Maprik staff he’d like to congratulate Mr Akunaii and his team on a job well done.

According to Mr Taime, most staff from both sites had never been to Goroka or seen the IMR headquarters, the colloquium was their opportunity to see the headquarters, meet the director and staff from different locations and also to mingle with overseas collaborators. He said the most thrilling part of the event was when staff who served the institute for more than fifteen years were given recognition and were presented with medallions and certificates by the Director and management.

Mr Taime also mentioned that the 40th anniversary celebrations was not only celebrated in Goroka but was also extended to Madang and Maprik with funding from Dr Ivo Mueller the scientific head of the Vector Borne Research Unit and some funds from fundraisings.

Those who couldn’t make it to Goroka held their celebrations at the sites and the long serving staff were given their medallions and certificates.

Mr Taime concluded by saying “keep up the good work and meet again in the next ten to fifteen years.”
