![]() Knowledge on malaria exchanged By RHONDA CLEMENT A group of five Doctors from District 9210 – Zambia, Zimbabwe, Mozambique and Malawi visited IMR Yagaum site on the 26th of March to see the malaria control measures carried out at the site.
The visit to Yagaum was malaria orientated because they were interested in the malaria control and preventive measures that IMR is researching. Team leader, Dr Mwangala Muyendekwa, said that the Group Study Exchange (GSE) visited Yagaum to see the different modes of vector and treatment control researched at the site. Dr Muyendekwa said that during their visit they learnt that there were four species of malaria parasites in PNG compared to where they came from, which only has two. He said they were also shocked to find out during their visit that the same vector of malaria in Papua New Guinea was also transmitting filariasis, whereas filariasis is absent from where they come from. Dr Muyendekwa hopes their visit would enable them to come up with better measures of control after they filed their report. Their visit was initiated by the Rotary International’s Group Study Exchange (GSE) program. GSE is a unique cultural and vocational exchange opportunity for business people and professionals between the ages of 25 and 40 who are in the early stages of their careers.
