This years open day theme was ‘Knowledge through collaborative Research.’

The PNGIMR Madang Vector Borne diseases unit had a classroom allocated to them to set up their displays.

Crowds of people came to look at the displays set up by the IMR staff and also to ask questions about the work of the PNGIMR in Madang and through out the country.

The day also saw FM100 talk back show host Mr Roger Hau’ofa who was at the event interview live on national radio PNGIMR Madang Administration Manager Mr John Taime and Dr Thomas Schulz, who had come from Australia to help out with the ‘Severe Malaria GEN’ project.

Each section of the Vector borne diseases unit had their displays; from the Administration, data management, Immunology, parasitology, entomology and the IPTI project, the Severe Malaria GEN project and also the ‘Healthy Women Healthy PNG’ women’s group had their area of display, where they talked about women’s cancer.

The community at large, including staff and students of the Divine Word University were impressed with what the IMR staff had put up for the day. PNGIMR Madang then received a certificate of appreciation from DWU for their participation.

Mr John Taime thanked the staff of PNGIMR Madang for the hard work they had put into the days preparation and for making it a successful one.

“Our team in Madang have displayed and presented well at the Divine Word University open day,” he said.

He said that he was looking forward for another one next year.
