Mary Amos, Manasseh Baea, Stanley Aisi, Lisa Kandi and Frances Akuani all graduated with degrees and diplomas.

Human Resource officer Mary Amos graduated with a diploma in Human Resource Management and Site Administrator Vector Borne Diseases in Madang, Manasseh Baea graduated with a diploma in Management.

The dual took their courses under the DWU Tertiary Distance Education Center (TDEC) from 2005 – 2006 and were sponsored by PNGIMR throughout the four semesters.

Mr Baea said that he would like to thank the Director of PNGIMR Professor Peter Siba for making it possible for Mrs Amos and himself to do their courses as it was the directors initiative (whilst he was still the deputy director of PNGIMR) that the pair do the course after three other PNGIMR staff had graduated previously from the same TDEC program.

Mr Baea pointed out that the courses they took were very good and he encouraged more people to do it, especially those in the management sections.

Mr Baea said that the assignments were hard to do especially when they had a full time job, but hard work paid off well for them.

Ms Frances Akuani who is in the new PNGIMR and UNSW Social Research Cadetship Program graduated with a degree in Papua New Guinea Studies.

Ms Lisa Kandi who is a new staff at PNGIMR graduated with a diploma in Health Management and is the Administration Assistant for the Intermittent Preventive Treatment for Infants (IPTI) project in Madang.

Mr Stanley Aisi also a new staff who works at the Computer/Data entry Section, graduated with a Bachelor in Business Information.

Mr Aisi was also awarded the Divine Word University bronze medal for best Academic performance.

Madang Site Administration Manager Mr John Taime highly congratulated Mr Aisi for his achievement.

Mr Taime continued saying that “education never ends until one ends at the six feet,” and that the achievement of the five PNGIMR staff who graduated was for their own benefit and also for the PNGIMR.
