Directors directions

Director of the Papua New Guinea Institute of Medical Research Professor Peter Siba welcomes the PNGIMR staff back to the New Year 2007 and has asked all to make this year a very successful year as they’ve always been doing in the past.

2007 is going to be a busy, interesting and challenging year for PNGIMR, as new projects will be coming up and more staff will be employed, especially at the senior level.

Professor Sibas first priority for this year is to secure land to build the new PNGIMR office and laboratories in Madang, as Yagaum, where the current PNGIMR office and laboratories are located has now become very over crowded and there is no more space to expand in terms of Laboratory and office space.

“My first priority for this year is to secure land in Madang to put up buildings to suit the type of work we do,” said Professor Siba. This year also, PNGIMR is in the process of the second face of the AusAid Core Support Program and will be looking forward to getting bigger grants for the Vector Borne Diseases Unit.

Professor Siba asks the PNGIMR staff to continue working hard, be loyal to the institute and to take a professional approach towards their job. He assures the staff that when new projects come in, they will be notified.
